I went to the party last night that unveiled the new look for Atlanta Magazine (even though it is already on newstands). My friend Penelope invited me AND she picked me up. The event was held at the new World of Coke that has recently opened.
We got there just after the party started and there were many people already there. No “fashionably late” crap here. Tony Brewer’s company did all the food. The party started in the main entry way with passed apps. and these red martinis. Plus, Coke products of course. There were noodles in take-out boxes and ice cream cones with goat cheese instead of ice cream. All the gimmicky stuff that starts these parties off.
We then moved in to a movie theater to watch a short, cartoon film about the making of Coke. It was so weird. The characters are odd and one has the mustache of a 1970s porn star and keeps saying “Sweet”. Another has 6 nipples, all of which were pierced. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. Not sure, who thought piercings were appropriate.
Moving on, after the short film we went into a much larger atrium that quite a few bars and food stations. This is where you could sign up to win free flights from Delta and a gift basket from Ciroc. The food was so-so. We agreed that an open bar always makes mediocre food alot better. The one station we like and actually ate was the tater tot station. It was a take off of the mashed potato bar from a few years ago. Instead, the base was tater tots with toppings of chili, cheese dip, bacon and sauteed onions. I choose cheese dip.
There is a tasting room where the Coke products from around the world can be tasted. In this area Smirnoff, one of the nights sponsors, had a bar set up. You picked a flavored vodka, they poured you a shot, then you took it over to the Coke products and mixed it yourself. Kind of fun.
The gift bag included Kiehl’s samples, a CD and a copy of the new magazine.
The highlight of our night was checking out all the Glamour Don’ts. We got a picture of one on the cell camera, but it is grainy and I don’t want to publish this person’s face. There were so many we lost count. I wore a Diane Von Furstenburg brown dress that tied in the front from the summer collection and Penelope had on a black wrap dress with flats. Very cute. Definitely not a DON’T.
After, we went down to Highlander to catch up a bit more. A very fun night. Thanks again for the invite.
