Recommendations: Slumdog Millionaire

Best movie I have seen in a long time. Period.

Synedoche was good too. But not exactly happy and cheery. After I saw Synedoche I finally dragged myself out of the funk I have been in.

BUT GO SEE SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

Advice: Don’t Watch Them All Back to Back

My husband has been out of town since last Thursday. He returns tomorrow. But I learned a couple of things this weekend due to his absence.

Rathbun’s Steak is still one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. My friend R- and I sat at the bar for 2-1/2 hours on Friday chatting and having cocktails. It was great.

All of my “going out” tops, with the exception of one, require a husband there to zip, button, unzip, etc. Needless to say, I had a fashion emergency.

Cable can be my downfall when alone. I don’t watch that much tv, but this past weekend I made up for it. Every girl movie ever made was on. These included: Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Steel Magnolias, Sweet Home Alabama, The Breakup and The Notebook.

How much time do you think I spent crying this weekend?

If you guessed ALOT, you would be right.

Favorite Song Right Now – Rich Girls

Happy Weekend! I think tonight calls for Skinny Girl Margaritas :)

Going Out in the ATL – Tidbits

1. When did Highland Tap’s martinis go up to $12? Did I just not look closely at the bill. But they are now $12. Such a disappointment. They used to be so cheap in my memory. I just think that is a high price for that establishment, including the $16 they wanted to charge for my vegetable plate.

2. Steamhouse Lounge – Not a bad spot. So, so bar food. My friend and I stayed for 6 hours a couple of weeks ago. Neither of us are getting vacations this summer due to work, so we made it an afternoon and evening with “Sex on the Beach” shots. I haven’t had one of those in like, 10 years. So tasty.

3. Loca Luna (newish location) – got the call from a friend to stop by and say “Hi”. Stopped by and quickly left. Very hot, Very OTP, Very slutty, Very tacky. I do not recommend.

4. Kyma – The key lime martini was amazing. Appetizers were amazing as always. Made better with a Buckhead Life gift card.

5. The Blackout – Hanging out in the front yard of your condo building, drinking and watching the craziness is a lot more fun than staying inside in the dark. Plus, the heat inside was unbearable.

Favorite Things Right Now

The blog Vodka Has No Carbs.

Being smug that I cut a minute of my mile time. (But not the hurt knee).

Roast chicken and salad. Non-fat dressing

Gin, Diet Tonic and extra limes.

My tan line. Just enough so I don’t look like I spend all my time in caves

Cupcakes from Little Cake. (Normally I despise cupcakes, but these are great. Plus, they are little. Not totally half a cake which some companies think is appropriate. It’s not.)

The fact that I got Crane Christmas cards from last year 50% to use this year.

Pink Lady Apples

Counting down the days till E3 comes home.

Realizing again that when E3 is home, my travel will cut immensely and I get my social life back. No more psuedo-single.

Recommendations – Jefferson Hotel

I have been traveling again. As you know, I work with my mother and she was on the trip too. We had big plans of what we were going to get done. Well, someone else had different ideas.

I have been flying back and forth to Richmond, VA for a project that is in the surrounding area. Then in July I will start a new, different one.

The Jefferson Hotel
, where we normally stay, really came thru for us when my Mom became violently ill with food poisoning.

1. Concierge had valet waiting with a wheelchair and coverings to get her into the hotel.
2. Housekeeping washed her pants for free in the middle of the night. And returned them at 12:30 am.
3. Bellhop let me into the gift shop at 12 am to buy every medicine they had. Including the $8 bottle of Pepto-Bismol.
4. Called in a car cleaning service early this morning to detail the rental car so I could go to my jobsite.
5. No less than 5 staffers wanted to know if she was OK and feeling better.

I highly recommend this hotel and the fabulous staff who helped us thru the worst business trip ever.

Recommendations – SomaFM

Thank E3 for this one. SomaFM is a group of online, independent, commercial free radio stations. My personal favorite is Secret Agent. The tag is “The soundtrack for your stylish, mysterious, dangerous life. For Spies and PIs too!” In between the songs small snippets of James Bond movies are played. Just a line or two. I LOVE IT.

E3 likes the channel Groove Salad too. We have been listening to these stations for years. I like the stations because you can read or work with the music on too. If you haven’t tried them out, seriously, do.

Recommendations – 10 Ten Nail Bar

I LOVE 10 Ten Nail Bar. It is my Mom and I’s favorite place now. It is so clean. It is so cute and modern. And I have never had a bad experience. Personally, I get the OPI treatments. These are a step up from the Signature Treatments. Plus, the special chair that leans all the way back is the absolute best. I have to say for a step up from your normal walk-in spot this is the best out of the many options that have recently opened in Atlanta. Usually an appointment is advised. And after you can go pick up dinner at Alon’s or Doc Chey’s.

If you want more info, please click here. You won’t regret it. I fell asleep today in the chair after a very rough day. It was fab.

Recommendations – Dogfish IPA

I am finally back in Atlanta. Heading back out again in a couple of days.

Anyhoo, here is one recommendation I have recently found. (Thanks, E3.)

120_label.jpg

We found this beer down at Dean & Deluca in Georgetown and it is a beer that E3 has wanted to try for quite some time. The thing is, you only need one. And from a drinker, don’t say I did not warn you.

It is not like any other beer I have ever tasted. We really enjoy a good IPA and this is the ultimate. Very little of the beer is made each year. I would recommend clicking on the distributor map provided on the Dogfish website to find out where you can get yours.

P.S. E3 is the way my husband’s family differentiates between all the E’s. They call each other by their number. So that is how he is going to be referred to from now on.

Recommendations – Urban Body Studios

I started Pilates today, worked on the condo, did some other work. Now I am SORE. Let me say, I used to dance, do yoga and all of that. But the last couple of years have been rough. And 30 is looming. Thus, back on the treadmill, Pilates and a food journal.

I am going to Urban Body Studios since it close, clean and doesn’t smell. I love it. When I reach my goal I will let you know.
