Kate Spade & J.Crew – Pink, White and Black

I wore this outfit last week to the office and making calls. The pants, bow blouse and Karolina heels are all Kate Spade. The coat is J.Crew which I’ve blogged before. When it warms up even slightly I’m always inclined to wear pieces like the lightweight wool crop pants that show a touch of skin. Even if it is my ankles.

Similar pants, blouse and shoes. The shoes in the link are beyond fabulous. Then of course a similar coat.

I just never seem to get enough black, white and pink. Or bows it seems.

OOTD: Green, Pink, Manolo & not very work appropriate

Yesterday it poured rain. Poured. But it was relatively warm. This meant I couldn’t resist wearing an outfit that made me think of Spring and not having to wear a coat was nice too.

I got this dress in early Fall of last year at Anthropologie. I deeply regret not buying it in the other colors it was offered in. I like the draping. I like the color. The green is lovely and almost grass like. It’s not an obnoxious, neon green that many companies think is appropriate to sell. Neon green isn’t appropriate in my world.

The issue with the dress is that it’s figure hugging. Not in a ridiculous, hooker kind of way. But I wouldn’t normally wear this making calls. I ended up only making one call yesterday and doing more computer work before I met Amy at Seasons 52 for lunch. Lunch was enjoyable but I think I talked her head off.

Ponytail of shame due to the rain. But I love the neckline.

The jean jacket I got a the J.Crew outlet in Destin a few years a go. The nude shoes are Manolo Blahnik via eBay. See a pattern here regarding designer and eBay? And the scarf is old J.Crew. It’s the perfect shade of bubble gum pink.

In other not work appropriate photos outfits. Is it to much to ask to be almost 35 and want to bit swimsuit model fit? I don’t really think so. I love Gwyneth but I have this thing that if I’ve got a wannabe goal model type person she has to have dark, brown hair.

Hence, Julia who is Mohammed’s girlfriend on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Lord, just airbrush me like her.

OOTD: J Brand, animal print and red

First, I can’t win with this blog. Either the photos are to small or they are to big. Argh!!!!

Second, yesterday I thought my hair looked good. Clearly it was like when Giuliana or Joan on Fashion Police say that a celebrity’s dress looked amazing in real life but in a photo the person is now nominated for Worst Dressed. Ahem, see my hair below.

I was all over my outfit yesterday since I only had to drop paper work off and don’t have to make calls till tomorrow.

My jeans are replacement J Brand Lovestory jeans since my old pair bit the dust. This pair was much more reasonably priced than the original pair. I think with shipping I paid $30 via eBay. Definitely a check in the win category. However, J Brand is not a brand I recommend buying on eBay unless you really and truly know your size. That brand is all over the place. Sometimes its big, sometimes its small, sometimes I wonder if it’s just mismarked. This time I lucked out.

Sweaters is an old, cashmere, cowl-neck I got a few years ago from Intermix and the light weight coat is Elizabeth & James like in a previous post.

Shoes are super tall, lipstick red Kate Spade. Bag is my trusty Goyard.

I felt somewhat Ali MacGraw somewhat ready to hit Studio 54.

Honestly, I wish I could dress in theme every day. It would be so much more fun.

Lol and photo is via the Neiman Marcus bathroom.

Outfit for Work – Kate Spade, YSL and a Princess Leia bouffant bun

Here is what I wore to work yesterday. Kate Spade dress and the trusty Karolina heels. The scarf is old J.Crew. In the past I wear the dress with several long, J.Crew outlet pearl and gold necklaces and some Kate Spade sparkles studs. I like the dress. It’s basic but has a bit of pop. I felt the crazy, cinnamon roll hair was ok because it wasn’t on top of my head like a satellite. It was in a more normal spot on my head but not wound up tight like a librarian. Then I was carrying my YSL animal print bag from Christmas. It’s been so cold and my regular coat won’t do. I was wearing my knee-length North Face coat outside. It’s just like wearing a sleeping bag and I love it.

I sometimes, no, a lot of the time struggle with what to wear and what is appropriate. I think it’s because of my age and where I’m at in life. I work in a conservative environment. But essentially, I’m the “creative”. People would rather see me looking pretty but appropriate. People find these pops of color approachable. They like to see a fun bag. But nothing in their face. The YSL is a touch loud but animal print in moderation is appropriate in my opinion. It’s not like it’s a dress. Since owning that bag I’ve felt a bit like a pregnant person who complains about strangers touching their belly. Strangers come up to me and want to PET MY BAG. It’s frightening and creepy.

As I’ve said before I don’t wear pants to often and I certainly don’t wear pant suits. So unapproachable. So boring. My thoughts about work clothes and age appropriate clothes are vast. I could write a thesis about this topic. Maybe I put to much effort into the process? But I think its more about a whole package when you do what I do. I’ve found that these pops of color open the door to the knowledge and the relationship building I bring to the table. Human nature is a funny thing.

The last couple of days have been a big mountain to climb with some success at the end yesterday. Maybe it’s all just in my mind but when I feel good about the outfit I’m wearing I feel more prepared to get the job done. As a person who loves fashion and clothes it’s just always something I think about. The issue is almost, how to be memorable, but not. The clothes don’t wear you, you wear the clothes.

I don’t think I’m totally getting my point across, but I am trying to open up a bit of discussion. What makes you feel good when you go to work? What is your favorite outfit for presentations? What do you think is appropriate? And by that I mean the look, the price, the brand. And even though I’m not a parent, how do you balance your work wardrobe with your mom wardrobe if that is an issue for you. My mom was always dressed up when we were kids so there was no issue.

Twitter might have been a better forum, but I’m trying people! Deep thoughts about clothes over here. :)
