Happy Halloween aka Wednesday

It’s Halloween.

This is my iphone pic of my Kate Spade shift. It’s Wednesday.

On Wednesday’s we wear pink.

This is our pumpkin. Nothing out of the ordinary but I did think it looked cool lit up at night when we drive into the cul-de-sac.

Say Cheese!

These are my candy bags I do for people I visit for work this time of year. Basically, I just combine candy corn, Indian corn and the pumpkin cremes, tie a bow and attach my card. I seem to always work in positions where I call on small business owners and they (and their staff) love stuff like this. Sometimes I think some of the tactics I take would seem old-fashioned to people but the tactics work so I don’t really care.

Probably a good thing I don’t call on dentists.

I went to a party last night given by someone we do business with. It was quite the shindig. Most people were dressed in costume, open bar, fully catered, etc. All the girls working the event were dressed as slutty nurses which is fine since most of the guests were men and I don’t really find that kind of thing offensive. But I walked in, in my green trench since I was freezing. And my outfit was a DVF and black tights. Typical me, but that was one of the rare times where I just felt old, over dressed, covered up, not cute, fat, list goes on. I’m not fat. I know this. But I am 5’9 and when you are standing beside a petite, size 0 with inflatable tits the automatic reaction is “OMG! Pass the botox! And NO, I don’t want any food.”

So many mixed feelings and struggles about not comparing self. Remembering to be my best or work to my best is HAAAARRRDDDD. Boo! Hiss!

Have a caltene bar for me! I won’t be eating. ;)

Nail polish – I’m not trendy

I used to do all kinds of colors on my nails. I did gels. I did French tips. *SHUDDER*. But now I have getting my nails healthy again the thought of having color on my hands darker than OPI’s Ballet Slippers is just to much for me. I still like an American manicure which is a lighter, less noticeable version of a French manicure. But for a pedicure I still like color.

Turns out I pretty much only like one color these days. Chanel’s Pirate. It’s always been a favorite and the company doesn’t seem to mess with the formula like it did with Vamp.

The perfect shade of red in my opinion. So elegant. Plus, if I did want color on my hands it totally works. I’m not a huge product person so when I find something I like I tend to stick with it.

However, recently I got all excited and decided to try something new on my toes. The new Chanel Vertigo which I’m sure you’ve seen on other blogs or might of tried yourself.

Kind of a charcoal color

I just kind of felt it made my toes look dirty.

I like the bright of red especially as it gets colder. Or you know, always.

Maybe I’m getting in a rut. I would prefer to think of these preferences as signatures. So much more chic.

Whatever. At least I don’t wear things like this. So hideous. Heart palpitations just looking at it.

The Cold Cramps My Style – New Coat Needed

I need a new coat. My coat is old and a bit to big. I got SEVEN years a go. Wow. Seems a long time in the world of fast fashion. It’s black, has animal print lining and was bought at Banana Republic as a Christmas present.I’m not one to really look around for something I barely need down here in Atlanta, but when I need it, I really need it. I’ve got a knee length puffy coat from North Face but my fiance doesn’t want me wearing that to work or when I visit clients. So I think I’m just going to suck it up and get this coat from J.Crew.

It’s the Lady Day coat. In black. Boring. Would rather in the pink option.

But that’s the rub, right? Must. Get. Black. Hmmpf.

Obviously, I’d rather have something amazing like this Burberry option. But that’s kind of silly. And out of the price range.

On another note, what’s up with retail websites not letting you copy their pics of clothing items anymore? Gah! It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged regularly. Nordstrom and J.Crew are cramping my style as well!

Blair agrees.

Fast Food and Maintaing Weight – What Works for Me

Heyyyy, how you doin?

I’m sure you’re fine, but if you’re like me you don’t have a lot of time for cooking. Or maybe like me you just don’t care to do it that much anymore. But that gives you a quandary of how do I stay healthy, maintain or lose weight while not eating junk. And if you are like me it will take a GALLON of salad to feel full.

A lot of people on twitter have asked me about some of the things I eat so I wanted to share. But with the disclaimer that I’m not perfect, I’m not a nutritionist or a trainer. These are just some things that I like to eat that are fast, relatively healthy and would fit into most people’s diet.

Ok, so generally I try to stay vegetarian but preferably vegan on a day-to-day basis. This is about my health and being advised to maintain an anti-inflammatory diet by my doctor. I do notice when I maintain the diet my chronic pain does subside. But I live in the South and sometimes a girl just needs some queso or some mac n’ cheese.

My number one fast food that fits in this diet is black beans. LOVE THEM SO MUCH. You can add chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, hot sauce or whatever you want. Generally, I prefer to just add hot sauce and then microwave. (And don’t start on the horrors of microwaves. We are all doing the best we can and this isn’t McD’s so move on.) I prefer to use Bush’s reduced sodium.

Cheap, Lo-Cal, and FAST!

Plus, the fiber. Oh, the fiber.

Soup. Love soup.

This one is organic, dairy & gluten free. Plus, the whole box has 240 calories. It’s flavorful and filling so its perfect.

Yummy in my tummy

I’ve found that I really like Larabar’s for breakfast.

I like these two at breakfast. Honestly, I add a lot of issues changing from Atkins bars or other brands that reminded me more of a candy bar. But I got used to these quickly and they are better for you. I just tell myself I’m making good decisions for my health and maybe my insurance company will notice I take care of myself now.

Sometimes I still eat some fish. I like frozen salmon or tuna burgers from Whole Foods. They are actually relatively inexpensive. The burgers cook quickly in the oven and I usually just put some salt and pepper on them then eat with a salad or raw vegetables depending on what I feel like. These are from Kroger. These burgers aren’t ideal because there are some additives that I don’t want but sometimes it just can’t be helped. Win some, lose some.

Those are a few easy food items that are quick, cheap and relatively healthy that I like to have around to help maintain my weight and try to stay on the healthy train. Kind of basic but it works and keeps me out of McDonald’s.
