Events – Harvest Midtown and Hotoberfest

Harvest Midtown and Hotoberfest are this weekend.

I am attending Harvest. Wine is one of my obsessions and I can walk to this event. Walking won out over microbrews.

Have decided not to attend the JLA Charity Ball. Just really don’t feel like it and have not had time to take the dress in to be altered. Hopefully, I will be able to do weekend recap tonight with pictures from Nashville and a couple of acquisitions for fall.

Cocktails to Love – The Economic Boost

The Economic Boost

Put the party into politics with VF Daily’s Capital Cocktails. Come November, we’re all going to need a stiff drink! Today’s recipe was created by Damon Dunay, the beverage director at the New York City restaurant and bar Delicatessen (54 Prince Street, 212-226-0211).

The Economic Boost
1 1/2 oz. Grey Goose La Poire vodka
1/4 oz. absinthe
1 1/2 oz. Red Bull (or Delicatessen’s own sugar-free energy drink)

Add to a shaker filled with ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Both the Red Bull and the absinthe provide a boost!

Happy 30th Birthday C-!

Takes me back to plaid skirts, saddle oxfords and many, many memories.

Heading out to Nashville in the morning for the last of the Nashville 30s. This week has been beyond hectic.

Have an amazing weekend.

Fashion – To Repeat, Or Not to Repeat

The JLA Charity Ball is October 3 and I want to go. It is a Black and White Masquerade a la Truman Capote. Fabulous right?

I can not find a dress that I would 1. Want to wear again 2. Does not look like prom 3. Is not super expensive (like the Marc by Marc Jacobs I picked out) 4. I actually want to pay for.

Last year I had a great dress from DVF that was black and perfect. I loved it. Wore it to a wedding and one other event too. It would be perfect for this year, but I have already worn it and it would need to be taken in quite a bit.

Should I just suck it up and have it taken in? None will remember unless they look at the pictures from last year. Ugh, so frustrating.

There is No F-ing Gas!

There is no gas and when it does appear the lines are forever.

I have an installer stranded as I type in South Georgia. My family in NC and friends in Nashville report no gas.

I am supposed to go Nashville for my friend’s 30th on Saturday. That may or may not happen.

And thanks to a long-standing, crooked Atlanta government we are completely dependent on cars and have no mass-transit to speak off.

Today at the BP across from the Houston’s on Peachtree there was gas. I stopped to fill up what was maybe a quarter of a tank. All the pumps were going at an excruciatingly slow pace. I was sitting in the front seat watching the dollar amount tick along. Weird man beside me gives me a dirty look for some reason and drives off. And then the dollar amount seemed to start getting a bit higher thant it should be. What was that sound? Shit, the pump had not automatically stopped and was spilling gas all over the concrete. I could just see the money burning up before my eyes.

The weird man could have had the decency to tell me what was happening. Jerk. People are hideous anymore.

Tidbits – Recommendations and Other Things

Last night I told E3 about a pseudo-event I had forgotten about. The kick-off for Stone Brewing Co. in Atlanta hosted at Taco Mac Metropolis. We headed out at the last minute. I was already in shorts and a tank for the night and had to change back. Honestly, it was any other night at Taco Mac Metropolis. Just add home brew geeks everywhere. I had the Stone Pale Ale which was very good. However, there were two incompetent, oblivious bartenders and service was terrible.

Fox Bros BBQ is a great place to take someone when they are hung over. I took someone there and they loved it. And I loved the collard greens. Brought the rest of my food home to E3.

Decorated for Halloween in a glam-ish, skull kind of way.

Hated almost every outfit from the Emmy’s that I saw on People.

Bobby’s Pimento Cheese from Paula Deen is the best pimento cheese you will ever eat. Even better as a grilled cheese. I made it for out of towners who had never had it over the weekend and they could not stop eating it!

1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
1 cup grated Monterey Jack
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
2 to 3 tablespoons pimentos, smashed
1 teaspoon grated onion
Cracked black pepper

Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. Add all of the remaining ingredients and beat until well blended. It can be used as a dip for crudite or as a sandwich filling.

On Thursday, Sandpiper is having the stylist from J Brand come to town. 10-1 at City Walk. 2-8 at Vinings. Unless, something unfortunate happens, I am going. Even though, unless your name is Rachel Zoe, I don’t need your help. :)

Going to go get my ass kicked at yoga tomorrow night. Again.

Weekend Recap – Weather was Wonderful

Friday afternoon started out with a 3.5 mile run. Followed that up with a bit of patio drinking up at Vortex on Peachtree. We are in that perfect weather time of the year so the walk was amazing. Headed out to Cavern to see a friend. I had to leave due to being incredibly tired and having to get up so early the next day.

Saturday started way to early. As you know, I love JLA but there is one thing I don’t like to participate in and that is the Bus Tour. I have been as provisional and going again as an advisor was just not fun. After that ended I made enchiladas and watched the UF game. Headed out to Brickstore Pub in Decatur. Not exactly my scene and I was not drinking. But the Milly top and Lovestory Jeans I was wearing made it better.

Sunday brought pilates which totally kicked my ass, a ton of laundry and some studying. I also made lobster salad.

Now back at work and getting ready for another busy week.

Have A Great Weekend

Here is my weekend plans.

1. JLA Provisional Bus Tour
2. UF vs. UT game – making enchiladas for game
3. Brickstore Pub for Birthday party
4. Shooting or Yoga
5. Study
6. Patio Drinking

High Fructose Corn Syrup – I Call Shenanigans

Here is the link to corn people’s new website that wants you to believe that HFCS is good for you.

They won’t let you embed their adds in your blog. So if you want to go watch them, they are over there.

Anyway, HFCS is gross and the corn people just want to keep their subsidies and you fat.
