Parties I Gave - Yellow Rose of Texas
I spent the weekend at Twelve Hotel over Atlantic Station for my friend Danielle’s bachelorette weekend. Several of us got there on Friday night to get set up, relax and go to the pool. I did enjoy being at the hotel and it’s facilities. We had a deluxe suite which included 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room and full kitchen. This worked well for a weekend getaway and having the Bridal Tea and Bachelorette at the same location/day.
My part of the events was the Tea on Saturday morning. My friend is originally from San Antonio, Texas, so I choose the “Yellow Rose of Texas” theme.
For the invitations, I used the yellow rose invites from Kate Spade. Paper Affair at Peachtree Battle handled everything. The ladies at that location and Phipps Plaza are always so nice.
(I will put the invite up again later. Husband had to photoshop out my cell phone number. Oops.)
Foxgloves & Ivy did the floral arrangements. There was an issue here though. The flower distributor sent yellow roses with orange tips. F & I choose to substitute other flowers while keeping the yellow theme. I am fine with that but I would have liked a phone call letting me know in advance. This is a situation when I want to get mad, but don’t because there is nothing that can be done and you just have to move on. Flowers were very pretty, though.
I had to have this party catered. The hotel was not helpful in catering, so I found someone who would. Ended up trying the Whole Foods Catering Department down on Ponce de Leon. Suzette, the catering manager, was very helpful. She really made things easy and did all the paperwork/payment thru email.
Menu :Smoked Mozzerella Salad, Marinated Asparagus Salad, Skewered Shrimp, Salmon with a vegetable salsa (not mexican), thin sliced steak with Horseradish Cream, Snowflake Rolls, Cream cheese lemon bars , and chocolate coveres strawberries with yellow icing squiggles to keep with the theme.
Everyone raved about the food. Very nice, since my family usually uses Affairs to Remember for big events and I was trying something new.
Also, since this event was at the hotel, I had to use plastic. But Party City has items that aren’t your typical plastic anymore. Everyone wanted to know where I got the Champagne glasses. Plastic is not exactly the chicest thing in the world, but I had to make it work.
Now this was supposed to have been a TEA. And I did have iced tea on hand. (My tea’s are never very traditional and I will share that story another time.) However, years ago me and Danielle had discussed how champagne should be served at teas. I had gotten 4 bottles of champagne to make this happen. My mother and sister were in attendance and thank god because half way thru I had to send the sister on a champgne run. This tea, was now a champagne brunch. All I can say is you live and you learn. 7 bottles later, everyone cried at my toast.
My gift to bride was monogrammed napkins and the Austin, Texas Junior League Cookbook. (Limetree did not have San Antonio.)
For the favors, I used sparkly, draw-string bags of Lemondrops.
There was drama with this event, like the breast cancer run/walk that started very early in the morning when we were still sleeping. And ATL cop that said there was no entrance, but the 17th Street entrance and I was “shit out of luck” till 10:30 am in getting back to the hotel. Obviously, he was wrong.
It was a great event and I feel like everyone had a lovely morning. Another successful party knotch in my belt.
