Places to Support - Oakland Cemetery

So I went to Nashville, TN for my 10 year high school reunion at Harpeth Hall School. Exciting times. While I was up there I met up with a friend that I had lost touch with, Penny Anderson. We had some fun times back in the day. It seems Penny has been busy during our time apart. She went to Oglethorpe for undergrad and has been working for non-profits here in Atlanta. Currently, she works for the Oakland Cemetery Foundation.

The Oakland Cemetery Foundation works to preserve the Oakland Cemetery on Memorial Drive. It is very interesting place and quite beautiful. There are free tours and it is not morbid in the least. The City cannot spend money to preserve private graves, so the work of the Foundation is important to preserve people’s graves such Margaret Mitchell and Bobby Jones.

Six Feet Under, one of my favorite places to chill, is across the street. The owners are heavily involved in the Foundation and regularly have fundraisers for the Cemetery. It would fun to make an afternoon of a visit. Don’t you think?

The name sounds familiar, but it has been a long time.
